Hyosung Bobber 300 V-twin cruiser motorcycle makes its bow

Korean company Hyosung has announced the Bobber 300 will go on sale in France and across Europe, could it come to the UK?

HYOSUNG has announced a new bike for the European market in the form of this neatly styled and chunky looking Bobber 300.

The bike fills the gap in the Hyosung range left by the aging (and frankly ugly) Aquilla V-twin cruiser that has been on sale for some years now. The Aquilla was a bit of a mash-up of a Harley-Davidson V-Rod and some kind of American Chopper bad dream, and it came in 125 and 650cc guises.

The new bike though is a much more grown up and less shouty affair, nicely in keeping with the current trend of stripped back, minimalists styled bikes.

It’s powered by a 300cc V-twin engine and based is on the company’s Aquilla 300 (GV300). Because of that we know it’s going to produce a fairly lazy 30bhp (or there abouts), weigh around 170kg and have a seat heat that’s an easy going 710mm. All fairly decent numbers for an A2 licence machine for less experienced or brand new motorcyclists.

As the bike hasn’t been officially announced in the UK yet, we have no pricing for the machine, although our Gallic chums over the channel are paying €4,990 for the bike. Finger and thumbs out and counted means we have a rough list price back in Blighty of between £4,300 and £4,500.

Could the Hyosung Bobber 300 make it to the UK?

If it’s in France and most of Europe, it seems silly for a couple of container loads not to come here and make their way to Hyosung’s already fairly strong UK dealer network. The emissions are the same and all the bikes would need are the clocks and lights altering.

Another thing that makes me think we’ll see it is that the A2 market in the UK is a pretty sensible place for any manufacturer to play in. Add to that the lack of purpose built A2 cruisers out there for UK buyers (that don’t look like a chrome wedding dress-fail), and the subtly branded Bobber should be a sure-fire hit with the A2 licence massive.
